Cohabitation
This is still a work in progress. Quite simply the law in England and Wales has not kept pace with changes in society. This is made more dangerous by the number of people who still believe there is a legal status known as “common law wife”. There isn’t.
Until the law catches up, couples really should give consideration to signing cohabitation agreements, particularly where property is concerned. If they don’t, a failed relationship can mean expensive litigation with an uncertain outcome.
