Family Mediation
Family mediation is a way of helping you to resolve the practical issues arising on separation or divorce. This does not mean helping you to get back together again, therapy or imposing any decision upon you.
The two of you decide how you (as opposed to the Court) want to divide the family’s assets and income. It might be an opportunity for you to sort out disputes concerning the children. It might involve relatively straightforward issues such as the children’s Christmas or holiday plans. It might be a whole range of problems that the mediator will be there to help you resolve.
One of our trained mediators will do this by meeting both of you and, usually over a number of sessions, will suggest to you different practical steps that will get the two of you talking so that you can work out what is best for your family.
Once you are resolved on a solution then this is recorded and can form the basis of a court order.
This is not a soft action; it is a well recognised and highly successful aspect of family law and it tends to be faster and cheaper than a more conventional approach.
We estimate that you are likely to need four to eight sessions, each lasting approximately one and a half hours and our hourly charge is £250 an hour which is shared between the two of you.
